USB Type C

USB (universal serial bus) is a technology to attach peripheral devices to computers, laptops, game consoles etc. Since been introduced, USB has been evolved in different versions and types. Basically USB can be divided into following three types.

Type A

Type B

Type C

So what is the difference between all these types and versions of the USB?

Generally, USB types determine the make and design of the USB and the versions define their functionality and efficiency.

Let’s have a brief look on USB types to understand about USB type C.

USB Type A:

USB type A is a standardized, original and most commonly known type of USB. This is the USB which is connected to host devices like computers and laptops. It is also called A- Male connector. It has different version like USB 1.1, USB 2.0, USB 3.0. It is always compatible with the host devices despite the difference of the version.

Type B: Type B is the other end of the cable which is used to connect with the peripheral devices like smart phones, cameras etc. it is also called Type B -male.

The versions of USB 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 has the speed difference each is faster and efficient than the previous one.

Now the USB type C (3.1) is entirely different and faster. Since the release of Apple Mac Book and Google chrome the popularity of USB type C has tremendously increased.

Previously all types of USB were compatible, standard type A plug socket and it supports all the types connected with the peripherals but this is not the case with the USB type C or USB 3.1.

USB type c or USB 3.1 is a tiny port which is faster in speed than all other versions of USB. The small and thin size of it made it possible to manufacture the devices in a thinner and lighter form. It is much faster than the 3.0 USB.

The USB 3.1 is a replacement of other ports we need in computers. While using a USB type C, HDMI and VGA ports in the laptops and computers will not needed anymore.

Type-C connector is smaller in size and it has replaced all the mini and micro USB ports. Not anymore botheration to remember about the cable type. The most advantageous feature of USB 3.1 is its amazing speed with a very small size. It is efficient enough to support a computer as well as the bigger devices than a personal computer.

The USB type C is faster with a charging speed of 100W, no need of separate power supplies for many devices

Single cable for power and data connectivity.

Another awesome feature of USB type C is that it is reversible, No worries that which way you are connecting the cable.

The USB 3.1 is on its way with lot many advantages and it is highly expected that in the future it will be used widely due to its small size and performance. Apple’s new Macbook , Google’s new Chromebook Pixel and Nokia’s new Tablet N1 have already made with a USB type C ports and  we will see more devices in near future with USB type C standard charging port.
